"My father was way ahead of his time", is what Marvin Gaye III says about his father, the legendary singer remembered for shaping the sound of Motown in the 1960s and 70s. It was the latter decade in which his music addressed the social issues of the day. Gaye is also remembered for how he died, shot and killed by his father the day before the younger Gaye's birthday in 1984.

Marvin Gaye III, the son of Gaye and first wife Anna Gordy Gaye, says the musical, which runs through the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from Thursday, June 6, through Sunday, June 9, tells the story of the couple's often tumultuous relationship. Anna was the sister of Motown founder Berry Gordy.

In the play, Atlanta native Chae Stephen portrays the older "Marvin", while D'Extra Wiley, co-writer, plays Jackie Wilson and Gaye's brother "Frankie".  Go to www.marvingayemusical.com for tickets.
