Keeping Elderly Active: Fulco Senior Summits Being Held

Discussion on needs now and in the future

There are an estimated 147,000 seniors living in Fulton County. Summits being held Thursday, May 31, are titled "Engage at Every Age", and are for seniors living in the county. They will be held simultaneously at four multipurpose facilities from 9:30a.m.-2:00 p.m. The topics of discussion will include transportation, housing, food security (hunger), and health/wellness. Those needing more information should log on to the Department of Senior Services website.

Approximately 10,000 participate in activities at 19 senior centers.

Ladisa Onyiliogwu, Deputy Director of the Fulton County Department of Senior Services, says they work year round to to keep seniors engaged to help ensure a strong, positive, and connected quality of life.

Among tho taking advantage of the services are Bruce Moody, who at the age of 65, 15 years ago, learned to swim. There's also Phyllis Bailey, who met her husband at a center. Bailey says her intention was to go to the center to avoid isolationism and to keep her brain functioning well. They've been married 9 years.
