New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the arrival and inaugural worship service of Senior Pastor Elect, Rev. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant this Sunday morning, December 9, 2018 at 9:30. Bryant will take the pulpit once occupied by Bishop Eddie Long, who died on January 15, 2017.

Bryant calls it the rebirth of New Birth. "This is our Chapter Two and I'm excited to be a part of it." According to Bryant, they have to build on the framework that already exists. "Bishop Long left an amazing blueprint and in order to do the effective work of the church, you can't stay in the four walls. You really have to serve the community. When the church starts doing that, we begin to really become a viable portion."  Bryant says it's his responsibility to go into the community and really let the light of God shine. "Most churches, at the end of service, say 'the doors are open', and they're waiting for folks to come in. What they don't realize is the community is waiting for us to come out."

During his time in Baltimore, Bryant, the son of an A.M.E. Bishop, was involved in a public divorce, caused by, he admits, his extramarital affair.  He calls it "a necessary pain in my maturation and development to help me realize that to whom much is given much is required." Bryant adds, "just because you're gifted, it doesn't take the place of character."

Bryant says he needed to take some time to develop his internal moral compass so that he could be, not just a better preacher and pastor, but a better man and a better father. "Ten years later, I'm grateful that I am."

In a press release, the church states that Rev. Dr. Bryant brings over 25 years of Christian pastoral leadership into the pulpit, pastoral office and faith community; having served most recently as the Founding Pastor of Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, MD. The satement goes on to say that Bryant's "hands-on, minds-on approach to ministry has impacted a generation of Christians throughout the United States and abroad; and now Pastor Bryant enters into his next season of ministry service with wisdom, expertise, clarity and commitment to executing the work of building the Kingdom of God in the Metropolitan Atlanta area along with the New Birth Community."
