The state of California is taking an unprecedented step towards stopping police brutality.

Yesterday the California Senate committee advanced a bill that restricts police officers from using deadly force.  AB 931 would change the language in policy from "reasonable force" to "necessary force" and would only justify lethal measures if there are no other alternatives.  The California Senate Committee on Public Safety has advanced the legislation.  The bill is now heading to another committee.

Senator Steven Bradford says deadly force is a form of oppression and the bill was introduced after the police shooting of Stephon Clark.

The bill is receiving fierce opposition from law enforcement agencies.
