Sean Garvey

Sean Garvey is one of the weekend and evening producers for News & Talk 1380 WAOK-AM programming. He also writes public service announcements for the WAOK website, in which some of his works can be found on waok.com under COMMUNITY.

News & Talk 1380 WAOK is a part of the Entercom Atlanta family and is the sister station to V-103 FM, 92.9 The Game, and Star 94.1 FM.

Sean joined Entercom Atlanta (formerly CBS Radio Atlanta) in December of 2016. He worked as an overnight board operator for 1380 WAOK AM. Garvey’s responsibilities as an overnight board operator were executing all audio inventory over the airwaves, including playback shows, commercials, news, promos, P.S.A.s, and troubleshooting any on-air technical difficulties. After the first few months of working at WAOK, Sean transitioned from overnight board operator to live show producer for Sisters in Law with Janice and Davida Mathis.

Before arriving at Entercom, the Atlanta native spent his earlier radio career in his hometown serving as a writer, producer, and on-air talent for local stations. During his freshman year at American Intercontinental University, Sean started out as an on-air volunteer and intern for community radio WRFG-FM at the age of 19. He later became a co-host (under a different name) on the Hip Hop mix show Casual Conversations with DCas & DJ Yogi.

After four years of voluntarily work, he went on to become a board operator and producer for three Atlanta based AM and T.V. stations between 2007 to 2015. Garvey soon created a track list of notable celebrities and influential leaders he has interviewed, including Angie Stone, Taraji P. Henson, Clifton Powell, Wood Harris, Jasmine Guy, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Ed Gordon, Cedric The Entertainer, MC Lyte, Montell Jordan, Yo-Yo, & former mayor of Atlanta Shirley Franklin to name a few.

Sean is also accredited in media for his line of work behind the scenes as a camera operator for Georgia Public Broadcasting (2005), an online content intern for Rolling Out Magazine (2006), co-host of CW 69 late-night program DKE-TV (2009), and online writer for an NPR-affiliate station in Atlanta (2015).

Sean is currently the technical producer for WAOK’s Sisters in Law on Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. He also produces Give It Some Thought with Dr. Harold Bennett on Sundays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on News & Talk 1380 WAOK AM. Every quarterly, he produces Jury Still Out with Darnell Morris on WAOK.

In his spare time, Sean partakes in online radio podcasting and building up his own multimedia organization called Reach One Communications. His organization specializes in writing commercial scripts, creating the voice-over work, and producing ads for various business owners. He credits his former radio host and mentor Reggie Gay for his outstanding timeline in radio broadcasting. Sean Garvey’s next endeavors will be writing for film, television, and producing a book about his life in the radio industry.
