Police Standoff with Armed Suspect Shutdown I-75

A standoff in Cobb County held up traffic for more than 2 hours after an armed robbery suspect was taken into custody after a dramatic police standoff on I-75.

More than a dozen police officers and a S.W.A.T. vehicle blocked the southbound lanes near I-285 with guns drawn on a car parked on the side of the interstate around 9:30 a.m. Cobb County police officer Chuck McPhilamy says that the man is in custody and they are glad that things ended peacefully.Police said that they were first called to a Wal-Mart in Cobb County after the man robbed the Walmart customer service desk at 210 Cobb Parkway.  It's reported that officers saw the suspect's car and tried to stop him. He then led police on a high-speed chase that ended on I-75 and I-285 near Windy Hill after he pulled over and refused to leave his car.

Officers from Cobb County police, Georgia State Patrol and HERO units assisted with the standoff.
