NFL and Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee link minority businesses to Super Bowl Events

The clock is ticking down for Atlanta to host Super Bowl LIII and members of the host committee are inviting small minority-owned businesses to match with contractors for the big game.

The Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee and the National Football League have teamed together to create a new program called “Business Connect” which helps to identify and connect certified, diverse and qualified businesses to compete for contracting opportunities connected to the Super Bowl in Atlanta.

“This is an example of one of the many community engagement opportunities the Super Bowl will bring to Atlanta this year,” said Lee Hendrickson, vice president, community engagement and volunteer programs. “Atlanta is home to so many diverse businesses and we look forward to showcasing the unique talent our market has to offer through the Super Bowl LIII Business Connect program.”

Interested business owners have until May 15 to apply for the program. 300 to 400 minority-owned small businesses will be selected.

According to the website to qualify for Business Connect, each business must:

  • Have a physical office in one of the twenty (20) counties that make up the Metro Atlanta area:
  • Barrow, Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, Rockdale, Spalding, and Walton
  • Be 51% owned by a minority, woman, veteran or LGBT individual and certified as one of the following:
  • Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)
  • Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB)
  • Women Business Enterprise (WBE)
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and/or Transgender Business Enterprise (LGBTBE)
  • Have been in operation for three (3) or more years in one of the twenty (20) counties in Metro Atlanta
  • Provide a good or service requested by the program
  • Must be in good standing and eligible to do business with the City of Atlanta

Super Bowl LIII will be hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
