White Nationalist Head to Newnan for Rally

Coweta County authorities are making preparations for The National Socialist Movement rally in downtown Newnan.

The far-right hate group is expected to bring about 50 to 100 people to Greenville Street Park in downtown Newnan on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities are expecting a massive counter-demonstration. Police are urging civilians to avoid the gathering.

In August 2017, the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia made national headlines. 

Right-wing protesters gathering to oppose the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue were met by anti-fascist demonstrators.

The rally resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to 30 more after a car was driven through a crowd a people. 

Local authorities say as many as 400 local, state, and federal officers will be in Newnan Saturday afternoon to supervise the rally and to help protect demonstrators 1st amendment rights.

The Neo-Nazi rally is set to begin at 3 p.m.
