Atlanta is known for many great things, but a low HIV/AIDS rate is not one of them. The Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, Mr. Robb Pitts is looking to change that.Through an innovative approach, Chairman Pitts has brought key clergy and faith leaders together to increase awareness of this increasing epidemic. Pitts held a press conference that included members of the faith community. His proclamation was simple; make HIV/AIDS awareness part of the Sunday message. Ministers have accepted this call to action from the Chairman and on Sunday, December 1st, which is World AIDS Day, preachers across the entire county will make HIV/AIDS awareness part of their message. Every significant social transformation in the Black community has always included the Black church. This may become a model for other urban communities to follow.
