Adoptions in Georgia will be easier soon.

The Senate passed a bill today that would make it easier to adopt children in and out of state. The legislation shortens the time allowed for a birth mother to change her mind about giving up her child. It will also allow adoptive parents to reimburse birth mothers’ living expenses and simplify out of state adoptions.

The bill was voted in agreement both in the Senate and House. Governor Deal is expected to sign off on the bill soon.  The U.S. Department of State-Bureau of Consular Affairs reports that between 1999-2016, there were 7,486 adoptions in the state of Georgia.
