Schools in Metro Atlanta have been receiving increasing numbers of violent threats in the wake of the shooting which killed 17 people in Parkland, Florida earlier this month.

On Friday, February 23, social media threats against Maynard Jackson High School, South Atlanta High School, Carver High School, and Washington High School were posted on Instagram.

In a separate incident, Snellville police arrested a 16-year-old South Gwinnett student on terroristic threats charges following his video posted on social media where he was loading a gun and saying "South Gwinnett, you're next."

Students, Parents, Teachers, and administrators are on high alert for any suspicious activity that could possibly threaten their safety.

"I can’t emphasize enough that the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority and we take every threat very seriously," wrote APS Superintendent  Meria Joel Carstarphen in a letter to parents.

Carstarphen informed parents to expect an increased APSPD and Atlanta Police Department presence on APS campuses.

If you have been alerted to any suspicious behavior, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
