According to the District's website, The Georgia Department of Public Health, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Education, has released guidance to help schools plan for a safe return to in-person instruction in fall 2020. The guidance takes into account local COVID-19 transmission in the community, to make decisions regarding the opening for in-person education.

Douglas County Schools

The Douglas County School System has made the decision to begin the 2020-2021 school year with remote learning for all students. In addition, the first day of lessons will be delayed until August 17.

Fayette County Schools

Fayette County Schools begins August 10. Parents of Fayette County students will receive a survey asking them to indicate which educational option they prefer when school resumes. The survey must be completed by July 22.  The two options given are the classroom or students can participate in virtual learning.

The classroom option provides different instructional settings based on the level of concern regarding COVID-19 cases. If parents choose the full-time virtual school option, students can participate in extracurricular activities at their brick and mortar school.

Each student enrolled full-time in a virtual school will be provided with a Chromebook. There are resources available for families who do not have an internet connection. If the parent or guardian does not make a survey selection, the default selection will be Option 1.
