Dick's Sporting Goods is limiting the sale of guns, responding to the Florida high school shooting on February 14, 2018.

Ed Stack, Chairman and CEO of Dick's, one of the country's biggest sporting good chains, says the company will no longer sell assault-style rifles. With 5 stores in metro Atlanta, Dick's is also ending sales of high-capacity magazines, and Stack says, they will no longer sell any type gun to anyone under the age of 21.

The announcement comes 2 weeks after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. A 19-year-old gunman killed 17 people. Stack says the new policy is in direct response to the shooting. He says after the shooting the chain scoured purchase records and learned that gunman Nikolas Cruz had purchased a gun from a Dick's store. Stack says the gun purchased by Cruz at Dick's, was not the one used in the school massacre. "It moved us all unimaginably, and to think about the loss and the grief that those kids and those parents had, we said that we had to do something, and we are taking all of those guns out of all of our stores permanently", said Stack.

Dick's is also calling on elected officials to enact "common sense gun reform" including required universal background checks that include previous interactions with law enforcement and mental-health information.
