An estimated half-a-million piedmont patients across Georgia must pay an out-of-network provider, due to Piedmont Healthcare ending its contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.

Chief consumer officer Jeff Gove says that three days of negotiations ended at midnight Saturday when Blue Cross came back with what he called an older, "unacceptable" proposal. Piedmont patients who are Blue Cross Medicare Advantage members are not affected. Also, this will not affect Piedmont Rockdale, Piedmont Columbus Regional or newly acquired Monroe Hospital.

Blue Cross Blue Sheild parent company Anthem maintains that they are still working to reach an agreement.
