Ronnie James Dio to tour in hologram form

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ronnie James Dio is returning to the stage in hologram form.

A hologram of the heavy metal singer will take center stage in the "Dio Returns" tour that kicks off Friday in Fr. Myers, Florida.

The hologram will be joined onstage by Dio's former band members and a pair of guest singers performing songs from a career that spanned from the 1970s until his death in 2010.

The diminutive Dio had a unique voice for the heavy metal genre, both melodic and soaring. Besides his own band, Dio, he was the lead singer for Rainbow and Black Sabbath before embarking on a successful solo career.

Dio died of stomach cancer at 67, but new advances in hologram technology will allow fans, new and old, see and hear him perform with a live band.
